Coaching Staff Objectives

The Olympus football program is fundamentally dedicated to the pursuit of excellence. We are aware that excellence is a constantly sought but seldomly attainable goal.

The basis of our pursuit of excellence is centered around the individual player. We know as the individual improves, so does the team. Therefore, we strive to make each individual aware of the unique and tremendous potential which he possesses. We strive, through attitude motivation, for each individual to reach his desired greatness.

Competition is inherently basic to the American way of life. We believe that to be a basic purpose of interscholastic athletics is to foster within each player the intense desire to win. The individual would be ill-served if winning is not the basic objective of his participation. We are convinced that the challenge of the competition is a pleasurable experience. The true competitor makes every effort to prepare himself for the competition. He studies, he works hard, he trains, he practices, and competes, with a positive attitude and with no time wasted dwelling on the possibility of defeat. He thinks positively and sets his sights high. Win or lose, the player can glory in the thought that he has made an all-out effort to win.

We, as a coaching staff believe that there is no higher ambition to which one can aspire than the education and administration of youth. Young people can be helped to realize that self-discipline, sacrifice, sublimation of individual interests to the general concern, and the will to succeed, are personal characteristics which are conducive, not only to athletic success, but also to successful living.

We are convinced that our basic objective must be realized within an administrative framework of an ethical behavior code. Our program is administered in accordance with the constitution, bylaws, regulations and recommended policies established by the Utah High School Activities Association, Granite School District, and Olympus High School.

Let us base our program upon a sincere respect for one another as individuals. We are each separate and unique human beings, striving to maintain our individuality. We realize that each human being has inherent dignity which no man has the right to violate. We are constantly aware that we must never infringe upon the physical and mental welfare of the individual in our efforts to win.

We are convinced that a well administered football program contributes as much to the goals of general education as any other high school subject. Therefore, our football program must be regarded as an integral part of the total high school curriculum. We are dedicated to the administrative precept that a successful high school football program contributes immeasurably to the total growth and development of the school.

A successful football program must operate within a close knit, loyal organization framework. Each individual will function according to his organizational job description with the delegated authority to accomplish his objectives. We support the principle of free and open communication within our organization. Each coach is encouraged to make his unique and constructive contribution to the welfare of the total program.

Organization is the cornerstone upon which a successful program will grow. Yet, our organization is ever cognizant of the worth of each individual member. The organization will constantly strive to foster the individual development of each member. Each coach must be dedicated to learning and constantly in search of football and human performance knowledge. Only a genuine love for the game can foster the continual search for increased knowledge.

Football coaching is a competitive enterprise. We are dedicated to the principle of hard work. The winner is the worker. We control our own destiny. We control the quantity and quality of our labors. We will strive to out work every football staff in the state with a creative productivity that will continue to propel our program to state wide prominence.
