Communities for Decency is a non-profit state-wide organization of concerned citizens promoting family friendly community values. We support and encourage legislation against pornography, educate communities on the dangers of the Internet, and network with individuals who offer support to families and individuals suffering from the many hazards of pornography. We want to give families the tools they need to safeguard their homes against the devastating effects of pornography and indecency.
Communities for Decency has 29 districts though out the state. We work on local and statewide decency issues. Through our Capwiz program our members are able to receive information and take action on issues they feel are important in less than 3 minutes.
Some of our accomplishments include:
- The passing of the Utah Children's Internet Protection Act, requiring placement of filters on public computers in libraries to protect children from harmful material.
- Participation in tightening laws and ordinances in several Utah cities.
- Influencing the removal of inappropriate advertisements and billboards
- Providing informative and inspirational presentations for youth, church, and civic groups on a variety of decency topics.
- The availability of a help packet for individuals and loved ones affected by pornography.
Current projects include-
- Janeen Brady's "Protect Their Minds "- This features our "Safety Kids" in a fun and lively performance by our local high school students. Taken to our elementary schools as an assembly, our children learn what to do when they see inappropriate materials. It opens up the lines of communication between parents, children and educators. This assembly is free of charge. There is nothing more important than protecting our children.
- DVD "Pornography: The Great Lie"- High School Parent's Meeting (co sponsored with UCAP and Utah PTA) We provide extensive guidance and tools you need to protect your families against the devastating effects of pornography. These meetings specifically address concerns relating to adolescent exposure to pornography and its insidious attack against the family. All parents, adults and high school students with an accompanying parent in the community are invited to these meetings. A DVD with two comprehensive booklets is available for purchase.
- White Ribbon Against Pornography Proclamations - We are currently working with the Governor and Mayors throughout the state to sign proclamations recognizing February as White Ribbon Against Pornography month (WRAP). This will give our communities and schools the opportunity to educate on the dangers of pornography.
