Yearbook Staff Disclosure
In the Spring, you signed an application that specifically asked you to commit to the following:
"By signing this application you agree to serve in yearbook for the entire year (2006-2007) and that you have the time and desire to make the yearbook successful. Please have a parent sign indicating that they understand the level of commitement required. Thank you for your interest and your desire to share your time and talents."
The purpose of the class is to publish the best possible book possible, while meeting the assignment and publishing deadlines.
Grading Policy
During the course of the term, each student is responsible for three grading categories
- (60%) Deadlines -- Every member of the staff will be responsible to ensure that we do not miss a deadline. The consequence of missing a deadline will be very severe, and could cause you to fail the class for the term. Editors will help to determine if students are meeting their obligations in regards to deadlines.
- (20%) Assignments -- Each member of the yearbook staff will receive assignments from their editors to do certain things, and failure to follow through with those assignments will result in a loss of assignment points. Mr. Hyatt will follow up with individual students on their assignments and their completion of those assignments.
- (20%) Participation -- Every day of class, each staff member will be given points for attending class and for participation working together with the other members of the staff.
Every student can easily earn an A by (1) being in class consistently and (2) by completing all assignments and deadlines and (3) contributing to the staff and the production of the book.
CITIZENSHIP Policy
Objectives of a citizenship policy: (1) Students take responsibility for their actions and for their own learning. (2) The classroom will have an atmosphere of cooperation and group success. (3) RESPECT for other people, and for property.
Citizenship Grade Scale: 4 - Honor; 3 - Good; 2 - Satisfactory; 1 - Poor; 0 - Failure
Classroom behavior
- Disrespect/Interfering with others' work is not acceptable, and may result in deductions to your citizenship grade.
- Talking while the teacher is giving instruction is unacceptable.
- Mr. Hyatt has the right to confiscate anything that is not related to class AND is disruptive. Confiscated items such as cell phones and music players will be given to administrators who will call parents.
Attendance and Tardy Policies (Based on school policy)
Definition: TARDY -- A student is tardy if they are not in the classroom when the bell rings.
- On the fourth tardy from any one class a student will not receive a grade higher than a "1".
- "Students who are excessively tardy (4 tardies) to class will be referred to the administration. Possible consequences include violation time, parent conference, suspension, and removal from day school to an alternative setting." (Olympus High Policy Manual)
Excused and Unexcused Absences
"All absences other than school activities are considered unexcused unless a verifiable note is received from a student's legal guardian. Students should bring the excuse note from their legal guardian when returning to school [and show it to Mr. Hyatt]. After showing the note to [Mr. Hyatt], students should turn the note in at the counseling center within five days of the absence so the excused absence can be recorded on the student's permanent record." (Olympus High Policy Manual) Truancy is defined as an unexcused absence. On the first truancy during any term the student will receive a grade no higher than a "1", and on the second truancy a "0". There is no makeup work for truancies.
- Extended absences should be excused previous to being absent.
- It is the student's responsibility to be aware of assignments, and to turn them in within two days of returning to class after an excused absence from class.
Office and Consultation Hours
During the school year I will keep approximately the same schedule to accommodate the students in all of my different classes. UNTIL from 2:15-3:10pm, I will be in my classroom in room 105 to help students that have questions and need help on any projects or assignments. Time before school can normally be arranged to meet and discuss problems or questions. I am available in the mornings before school almost every day.
