SCHOOL LAND TRUST
2007 - 2008

The School Community Council has approved funds to continue the emphasis on technology. Also, funds for personnel in numeracy and literacy are budgeted, and some allocations have been set aside for a grant proposal that required matching funds.

The rationale centers around five premises.

  1. Data is neutral or shows math as greater need.
    1. CRT scores for Special Ed are lower in math than language arts.
    2. CRT scores were steady or gained in Language Arts and Science.
    3. Direct Writing Assessment at Bennion is above the district average.
    4. CRT scores declined in pre algebra and geometry; no gain in Algebra; Math 7 gain

2. Some literacy initiatives can remain in place regardless of School Land Trust Plan.

    1. FTE for reading classes remains in schedule if necessary
    2. Funding from QTSA for literacy support is a possibility.

3. Numeracy focus can fund technology improvements.

    1. Computers to complete a lab
    2. Hardware such as projectors and Smart Boards for teachers

4. YPP is a district-mandated math program; additional funding will

    1. Facilitate implementation
    2. Improve programming and software capabilities
    3. Implement YPP with Special Ed

5. Projects linked to any focus area can be funded from QTSA

Funding for 2007 – 2008 will be three-pronged.

  1. Lab manager for math                                                      $ 8,000
  2. FTE and Literacy Specialist for Reading                               5,000
  3. Technology support                                                            18,000
  4. Matching funds for grants                                                    5,000

SCHOOL LAND TRUST
2006 - 2007

Bennion Junior High has identified technology, numeracy, and literacy as areas of focus. Moneys have been spent to put projectors and audio enhancements in classrooms. A lab manager for math computer lab and other labs and a literacy specialist are funded from School LAND Trust. Please visit the school to see the results of the spending.
