Percussion is the class to take if you want to play drums. In this class students learn to read music, both percussion and keyboard. Students do not need to have drums at home to take this class. The equipment needed to learn to play will be available for purchase for less than $50.00.

Percussion is available to 8th and 9th graders as an elective. The best preparation for 7th graders is to take piano lessons.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC DISCLOSURE
Congratulations for taking a music class! You are here to learn more about performance and to have an opportunity to perform for an audience. For these to happen, you must respect others and be responsible for your own actions. The rules in the classroom are:

1. BE ON TIME TO CLASS
2. KEEP YOUR HANDS AND FEET TO YOURSELF
3. ABSOLUTELY NO GUM WILL BE ALLOWED DURING REHEARSAL TIME
4. COME TO CLASS EVERY DAY PREPARED

Because music is a participation class attendance is critical. Many classroom experiences cannot be re-created. You are expected to come prepared to participate every day. If you are well enough to attend school you are well enough to play your instrument.
Attendance at performances and rehearsals are a required part of your grade. One purpose for including performing arts in the curriculum is to promote teamwork and cooperation. Your participation is required as part of the team. Excused absences such as illness will require a makeup activity. Dance classes, music lessons, baby-sitting, parties, athletic events and practice for other activities are not considered excused absences from performances.

Granite District and Brockbank School Citizenship and Tardy Policy will be followed.

Final grades will be based on the following scale.
93 - 100 = A
89 - 92 = A-
85 - 88 = B+
81 - 84 = B
71 - 80 = B-
72 - 76 = C+
67 - 71 = C
66 - 62 = C-
58 - 61 = D+
54 - 57 = D
50 - 53 = D-
BELOW 50 PERCENT = F
