Red Knight Team
First, Second, Fifth, and Sixth Periods

The Book Stops Here: Students are required to read daily (it's good for them) from a book of their choosing, as long as it is on the accelderated reader list. Book completion is the expectation, which is measured by objective assessment (that means a short, computer generated multiple choice test). All students are required to read one book each month.

The Red Knight Way

Seventh Grade English

Seventh grade English is about words: reading them, writing them, using them. In this class, we will do, yes, grammar, vocabulary (and lots of it), sentence and paragraph construction, and reading with purpose in mind.

Homework assignments will be given weekly. These assignments will require only 20-30 minutes, but are an absolute requirement for successfully completing seventh grade English.

Writing assignments will be completed on-line, through the MyAccess program. This web based writing program can be accessed at www.myaccess.com. All students have been given a user name and password.

Very simply, seventh grade English is about becoming successful readers and proficient writers. As such, class instruction will be directed toward attaining the skills of good readers and writers.

Classroom Requirements: The necessary supplies for this class include pen, notebook paper, and one set of 100 3 x 5 index cards (lined). Additionally, always, always bring your novel to your beloved English class.

Rules, Expectations, and Consequences

Homework and Assignments: All class and homework assignments are explained and outlined in class. Students are expected to record the assignments in their planners. On this page are listed the assignments by week. For the most part, homework assignments focus on vocabulary and writing, and will be given on a weekly basis. In addition, beginning second term, students are required to read at least five of the seven nights from a book of their choosing. Reading logs will be sent home, and I would appreciate your taking the time to sign these "green sheets" on a weekly basis. All assignments, with their due dates, are posted in the classroom and on my web page. Except in the case of excused absences, late work will not be accepted.

The Red Knights

Honor, Valor, Compassion, Respect

Welcome to the Red Knight Team, where honor, valor, compassion, and respect are more than mere words. We are excited to begin the new school season and hope that this year will be both academically and socially rewarding.

Red Knight Team : Seventh grade teams are comprised of the four core subjects: English, math, history, and science. The Red Knight Team consists of approximately 125 students who have the same core teachers and morning schedule. The team approach allows us the opportunity to better know your child and provide the consistency and integration so important to learning in the middle school setting.

Team activities and fees: The Red Knight team sponsors several extracurricular activities for the students during the school year, some of which require transportation or entrance fees. Attendance at these activities is contingent upon meeting the academic and social expectations of the team.

Media and Miscellaneous: Upon occasion short clips or longer versions of movies are shown in class. Parental consent forms will be sent home for viewing of any production which has a PG or PG13 rating.

Student Privacy: Assignments or tests may be edited or corrected by peers. In such cases, the students' identities will not be revealed. Any student work which is displayed in the classroom will not exhibit a letter grade. Finally, any displayed student picture will not contain and/or print last names.

Team Parents: We rely heavily on parental support; therefore, we would deeply appreciate your involvement with the team. If you would be willing to be part of the team, please fill out the Parent Volunteer form at the bottom of this page. We deeply appreciate any help and support you can provide.
