Dear Parents/Guardians:
This year we have decided to try Mail-in Registration for the 2008 – 2009 school year.  To accomplish this we are sending out packets in the next two weeks which will contain the information we will need returned to the school to process your student(s) registration.  Please take the time to read through the information, complete all necessary paperwork and return it to the school as soon as you can for processing.  You may mail in your registration or have your student drop it off in our office.
There are many advantages to registering in this fashion.  Maybe the most obvious is that you will not have to wait in lines as you have in the past to register your student(s).  But the other advantages to this type of registration are:  your student(s) should receive their schedules, receipts, locker assignment and if available Lunch PIN number in the mail about the second week in August.  Also, you will have accomplished registration early and not have to worry about being available in August when in-person registration is held.  Your fees will be paid before you have to worry about school shopping and other expenses at the start of the school year.  You and your student will not need to come to the school until school starts on August 25, 2008, or for 7th Grade on August 22, 2008.  This will free up your whole summer to be able to have a fun filled time with your family without the worry of school registration.

Jazz Band attended a Jazz Festival at BYU and the Crescent Jazz Invitational Festival at Timpview High School. At both Festivals they represented Brockbank well and learned much from the clinics and workshops.

Concert Band played at a Statewide Concert Band Festival at Utah State in Logan on April 2. The experience and lessons learned there were invaluable. They performed well and represented Brockbank proficiently.

A note to parents: If your student went on one of the field trips to a college or a Saturday Festival they were asked to contribute $2.00 for the bus. If they have not asked you for the money, please check with them to make sure it has been paid. Busses for District Festivals are paid for by the District. However, after the Festivals, we stop for them to eat lunch. They will need either a sack lunch from home or money to purchase lunch.

We want you to schedule the following into your calendars.

April 8       9:00 AM  – 12:00 noon -  District Jazz Band Festival – Jefferson Jr. High
April 15      9:00 AM  – 12:00 noon -  District Concert Band Festival – Eisenhower Jr. High
April 22      9:00 AM  – 12:00 noon -  District Orchestra Festival – Hunter Jr. High

We are playing music for this festival that includes all of Concert Orchestra, some violinists from Cadet Band, some wind players from Concert Band and percussionists who are assigned to the Orchestra music. There will be rehearsals for this Festival on Monday after school April 7, 14 and 21. Students will be given a schedule for these rehearsals if they are involved in this performance.

May 7        7:00 PM - Dance Concert
May 14      7:00 PM - Chorus concert
May 21      7:00 PM – Band & Orchestra Concert & Awards
May 18      School Awards Reception

And last, but most importantly, I want to express my gratitude to the parents who volunteer for both Instrumental Music and Renaissance. Mrs. Valdivia is here every day to coach string players in Cadet Orchestra and Concert Orchestra. Mrs. Mortensen has been invaluable as the PTSA chair for Renaissance. There are many others who make themselves available whenever they are needed to help with Renaissance awards, field trips and supervision at concerts.
THANK YOU!!!

Summer Host Families Needed
Would you like to give your student
the world but can't afford it?  This
summer bring the world home!  ...To
your home, by hosting a foreign
exchange student from Europe.  The
students will be visiting Utah for four
weeks during July and August.  All
students  speak English, bring their
own spending money and have
insurance.  Host families are only
responsible for room and board.  These
students are sponsored by Nacel Open
Door Cultural Exchange, a non-profit
organization dedicated to international
understanding and language
education.  Nacel's summer homestay
program offers your family the
opportunity to share your home,
American daily life, and Utah culture
with a teenager from abroad while at
the same time learning about another
country, increasing your own student's
foreign language skills, and gaining a
new perspective on the world.
Students will enjoy whatever your
family has planned for the summer
whether it is an elaborate vacation or
a trip to the mall!  In addition,
homestays and travel opportunities
are available for American students in
a variety of countries.  Host families
are also needed for the school year.
What an economical way to have
a "world class" experience!  Even
though summer homestays are
conveniently short, the friendships
formed last a lifetime!  Call Ardean
Loertscher, 278-5256, for more
information and applications or
visit our website at
