Sports Sewing

This class reviews the basics of Sewing learned in 8th grade and then moves on to other important sewing skills needed to complete more difficult projects. The overall goal is to help prepare the students for the State Competency Test given at the end of each semester. Along with the preparation for the test, students will put together a student portfolio with sewing samples regarding principles taught in the class. Students begin by learning about seam widths, sewing on buttons, and clipping curves. We then move on to pajama pants, followed by a locker pocket where students learn how to top stitch and attach pockets. They then proceed to sweatshirts where the students learn to use the Serger. Students are taught how to insert a zipper and then complete their own zipper sample. Boys make neckties, while the gilrs learn to convert old jeans into skirts. Final projects are selected by the student, with teacher approval, such as snowboard bags, duffle bags, or personal clothing items. We try to keep the cost, for the semester, under $40.00.
