My Disclosure
SPORT SEWING BROCKBANK JUNIOR HIGH
This is a One Semester class where students can improve upon their sewing skills while making worthwhile projects. The learned skills will be presented in a portfolio that will be due at the end of the semester and which will be used to help prepare the students for the State Competency Test given in May. The following disclosure discusses what will be required for the class.
Attendance: I follow the school attendance policy as outlined in the student planner. This includes both absences and tardies. Please refer to this policy. Students are expected to be in class and on time daily. If for some reason a student misses class, they are expected to ask the teacher for their missed work, upon their return to school, and they will then be given one week, from the day that they return, to turn in the missing assignment.
Supplies: Each student needs to be prepared daily with paper and pencil. They will also need to provide a 1" binder for their sewing samples portfolio. This will need to be in class by the end of the first week of this semester. This binder will remain in the classroom for student use until the end of the semester. Also, a separate list of needed sewing supplies will be sent home with your student.
Teacher Contact: If for any reason you need to get in touch with me you may call the school and an appointment will be scheduled. Please feel free to voice any questions or concerns you have about the class. The school phone number is 685-8645.

It is a pleasure to have your son/daughter in my 9th grade Sport Sewing
class this semester. I am excited to be their teacher and look forward to
learning with them.
I am listing below the projects, their cost and items that your student will
need in class this semester. I have tried to make this as cost effective as
possible. Please note that any questions that you have regarding the requirements
for this class, you are welcome to call me at school.
The first few projects that we will make come from kits that need to be pre-paid
before they are ordered. The kits contain patterns, fabric, thread, and instructions
for making the project. For all other projects your student will need to visit
a local fabric selection is good and extremely affordable. Mention that you
are in a clothing class at Brockbank and a 10% discount will be given. Please
note that I have specific due dates for money for projects and for projects.
I will always let our student know well in advance so that they can pass this
information on to you. Each student is, encouraged, to provide their own basic
sewing kit. This can be purchased at Wal-Mart for around $6.00 Each item needs
to be marked with the students name and class period. A basic kit contains
Scissors, pins, pin cushion, hand sewing needles, tracing wheel, tracing paper,
seam gauge, tape measure and thread as needed.
Students can order patterns through the school from McCalls, Butterick and
Simplicity. These are a great savings to students, since they only cost $1.00
Students can order them through me at any time during the semester.
It is my hope that the following list can help you plan for the next few months.
Again, if you have any questions, please call me here at School.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sorenson
