We are doing a lot of writing and reading in this class. Currently we are finishing Biographiesof a poet that your student chose. This requires a one page, double spaced paper and a presentation.

Next we will be working on holiday traditions of foreign countries. We will compare and contrast them to American holiday traditions. This requires a two page, double spaced, typed paper and a presentation with a poster, picture, activity, and/or food item (could be a recipe) to be shared with the class.

We have been working on poetry. We will be working with poetry throughout the year. They will required to write some of their own and share some of it with the class. With this we will be working on a music lyrics as poetry paper and presentation.

Starting in April they will be required to put together an autobiography. Full instructions will come home with your student in the spring. Some of the work that they are doing throughout the year will be a part of this autobiography.

They will also be interviewing a teacher of their choice and writing a quick introduction biography on them. It will be a one page, double spaced, typed paper and they will present the information to the class.

They will be writing a one page paper describing a person or a family pet. Further instructions will come at a later time.

Two of the books we will be reading are: Johnny Tremain and Across Five Aprils. Both are linked to the US History curriculum. During reading we will implement reading strategies and respond to the books verbally and in written form.
