Math Classes and Information

Math Classes

7th Grade Math
This is an overall general course designed with the average student in mind. Students will review and then build upon their knowledge and skill of general math concepts and computations.

7th Grade Accelerated Pre-Algebra
This class is designed for those students who are working at an accelerated pace and who have consistently scored high on the Stanford Achievement Test. It is a very rigorous course designed to fully prepare students for Algebra and/or Applied Math in the eighth grade. Students must be able to understand and perform all operations on whole numbers, fractions, and decimals as a prerequisite to this class.

8th Grade Pre-Algebra
This course is for those Eighth Graders who have a general knowledge of mathematical computations and concepts. The course is designed for the average 8th Grade student. Students will solve equations and will understand proportions using integers and rational numbers. Pre-Algebra is a prerequisite for Algebra 1.

8th Grade Algebra 1
Also known as elementary algebra, this course is for Eighth Grade students who have completed the seventh grade accelerated mathematics program with a B average and have been recommended by their seventh grade mathematics teacher. This is a rigorous course. The concepts will include linear equations, inequalities, polynomials, systems of linear equations, and irrational and real numbers. Those students who successfully complete this course will continue on into geometry.

9th Grade Algebra 1
This is an Elementary algebra course that is designed for the average Freshmen student who has completed eighth grade pre-algebra. Students will solve linear equations, factor polynomials, and graph the numbers of the real number system. Algebra 1 is a prerequisite for geometry.

9th Grade Applied Algebra 1
This is a rigorous elementary algebra course for Freshmen students who have completed pre- algebra with a B average or better, and have teacher approval. The concepts will include linear equations, inequalities, polynomials, systems of linear equations, irrational and real numbers. Those students who successfully complete this course will continue on into geometry.

Geometry
This accelerated course emphasizes the mathematical principles of physical objects encountered in everyday living. The properties of geometric figures such as triangles, rectangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, and circles are studied using basic Euclidean theorems and postulates. Also, formal logic and mathematical reasoning are introduced in this course. Students must have successfully completed Algebra 1 with a B average and have teacher approval.
