Music Classes
Music is a required semester class in 7th
or 8th Grade.
Concert Band
To play in Concert Band you must get permission from the
band teacher. This is the advanced band. Fees: $10.00 music
fee for the class. $20.00 fee for use of school instruments.
Jazz Band
This band is made up from the best players in Concert Band.
You must be in Concert Band to play in Jazz Band and have
the teacher's permission.
Vocal Music
Chorus is a semester class for 7th and 8th Graders. Students
learn the basics of music: note reading, enunciation, breathing
techniques, and performing/audience skills. Each semester
a concert is given in which students are expected to perform.
There is a $10.00 fee for this class.
Mixed Chorus (High School credit given
for music requirement)
Mixed Chorus is a year-long class that is open to 8th and
9th Grade students by AUDITION ONLY. S/A or T/B Chorus is
a prerequisite. Besides the basic skills of singing, ear
training and sight reading are taught. The class is expected
to do more performances. This group sings in assemblies,
does service projects and the District Choir Festival. There
is a $20.00 fee for this class, plus the purchase of a shirt.
Guitar
Guitar is a semester class for 8th and 9th Grade students
only. Basics of guitar playing are taught: chords, note
reading, and different styles of strumming. Students must
provide their own guitar and guitar case. There is a $10.00
fee for this class.
Cadet Band
This is a band for students who already know how to play
a band instrument (woodwind, brass, or drums). All 7th Graders
coming into the school who want to play in band need to
register for Cadet Band. Eighth Grade and Freshmen students
who have not played in Cadet Band need to also register
for Cadet Band unless they get permission from the band
teacher to be in Concert Band. Fees: $10.00 music fee for
the class. $20.00 fee for use of school instruments.
Cadet Orchestra
This is orchestra for students who already play a string
instrument (violin, viola, cello, bass). Seventh graders
need to take Cadet Orchestra before they can go on to Concert
Orchestra. Eighth Graders and Freshmen students can also
take Cadet Orchestra until they have permission to take
Concert Orchestra. Fees: $10.00 music fee for the class.
