Science Classes

Freshmen Biology
Biology is a class for motivated students who want to learn and like a challenge. This class will help students who are thinking about possibly going to college. High school graduation requires 1 full year of a biological science. Current college entrance requires three years of science, two of which must be a combination of biology, chemistry or physics. This class meets both high school and college requirements. Labs are a significant part of the class. Activities include chemistry as it relates to living organisms, cells and energy, genetics and ecology. The following requirements are necessary for admittance to Biology 1-2H:
1. Citizenship average of at least 2.0,
2. Overall grade point average of 2.0,
3. Signature of Mr. Morris, room C-15.
Bring a copy of your second quarter grades with you. If you lost your copy, see your counselor. Lab fee is $10.00.

Freshmen Earth Systems
This Earth Systems class is an integrated approach to the earth. It is open to all Freshmen and will fill the 9th Grade science requirement. In this class we will look at how the earth has changed because of earthquakes, volcanoes, climate, and the influence of animals and human populations. We will look at what happens to the sun's energy, how it is changed, where it is changed, where it is stored and how man can manipulate it. We will be designing experiments and performing others to show how the earth relates to what is going on around it. We will take a look at our solar system and beyond and evaluate whether or not we should spend resources to explore it. We will look at the atmosphere and learn how weather is predicted and then test our skills. We will look at many sides of ecological situations that affect our earth. If you are an earthling, we have something that should interest you in this class. Lab fee is $10.00.

Freshmen Earth Systems-Honors Globe
This Earth Systems class is designed for motivated students who want to become part of an international research team. Students make observations and take scientific measurements which are sent over the Internet to research scientists and students at other GLOBE schools. Data collection will be intertwined with our curriculum which includes the universe, oceans, atmosphere, and the geology of Earth.
Requirements:
1.) Citizenship average of at least 2.0
2.) Overall grade point average of 2.0,
3.) Mrs. Neal's signature (Room C-17)

8th Grade Integrated Science
How do planes fly? How would you make a good machine? Can the cow predict Utah's next earthquake? Make you own slime or other wonderful goo. Learn how to light up your life with electricity. Why do you get whiplash? Learn how technology has improved our lives. Science to open eyes. There are no prerequisites. There is a $5.00 lab fee.

7th Grade Integrated Science
Are you and air made of the same materials? Why do you have red hair like your grandma when your parents have black hair? What is inside the earth? How do we know? How do one-celled organisms eat? You will be investigating these and other interesting questions in science this year. There are no prerequisites. There is a $5.00 lab fee.
