Bowling for . . .

Today, students went to Olympus Hills bowling to try out for the Evergreen Junior bowling team. Some of them even sported the new socks that the PTSA gave to honor roll students last Friday. Here is the new look. You should be jealous. Tryout results will be posted later.

4thTerm

Can you believe it. This week we started the final term of the school year. Encourage your students to continue to strive for excellence in the school activities and in getting prepared for state testing (CRT tests) at the end of April and during May.

Athletics Blog

We have had a few requests to provide a place for students and parents to go and find out about team tryouts, practices, games, or other sport related activities at school. We are now in the process of putting that information on our Evergreen Junior Athletics blog. There is not a lot there yet, but Coach Harwood is working on making it an informational sports mecca for Evergreen Athletics. If you would like more info send him an e-mail.

Updates

We have tried to get everthing right on the web site, but there are always changes, errors and oops moments. The school calendar should be correct now, but if you are concerned, here is the link to the official district calendar. If you are not sure if the material you see here is accurate, if you see a scheduling error on our calendar, an out of date document or link, please let us know by emailing the webmaster or calling the school.

Also, you will probably notice that most of the links to the teachers' blog are missing. All the secondary teachers in the district have been asked by the superintendent to use Canvas, duplicating in a sense what we did through our blogs. The blogs still exist and some teachers will still use them, but many will not be updated since most teachers are transitioning to Canvas. Hence the rationale for removing the links. Please bear with us as the amount of new tools/programs and expectations have put our teachers in a hole. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, don't hesitate to call the school.

Parent Portal

Parents can now register for an account with the district to check on student progress, attendance and more. The district has provided a document to help you register (here) or you can go to the Portal and sign up if you are adventurous. The district has written a Parent Portal document that explain what the Parent Portal can do. Parent Portal Document

School begins on Monday, August 27th and 7:50. We will be going to all 8 periods (A and B day classes). The schedule will be 1A, 2A, 4A, 3A (and lunches), 1B, 2B, 3B, and 4B.

Welcome to Our New Staff

This year we have several new staff members. Replacing Mrs. Hixson in the main office as the Principal's Secretary is Mrs. Smith. Replacing Mrs. James in the English/ESL Department is Mrs. Cole. Replacing Ms. Ni as our Chinese teacher is Lili He. We hope they enjoy being at Evergreen as much as we all do. WELCOME!

Between Shades of Gray

Evergreen had the pleasure of welcoming Ruta Sepetys to our school today. She is the author of between "Shades of Gray" a book about some of the atrocities that happened during Stalin's Reign as the Soviet ruler. The book is a fictionalized account this dark period of history told from the perspective of a 15 year old Lithuanian girl. The story will make you cry.

Checking Students Out During School

Here is the best process for planned checkouts, like appointments, of your student during school hours. Save time and send a note with your student to the Evergreen Counseling Center first thing in the morning. This helps avoid unnecessary interruptions in the classroom by giving us time to write a street pass for your student to carry. When it is time for them to leave, they can simply show the street pass to their teacher, leave class and meet you at your predetermined place. Also, if you are calling to excuse a student for the day or need to check them out, please dial directly to the Counseling Center at 385-646-5166.

Web Address

If you can't remember our web address, well you're in luck. We just got a new way to get to our page. Just type in evergreenjuniorhigh.org and you will go to this page. If you are a hunt and peck typer like Mr. Butcher, you can go to evergreenjr.org and get there too.
