The Mission of AVID

The mission of AVID is to ensure that all students, and especially the least served students in the academic middle:
 * will succeed in rigorous curriculum
 * will compete in a rigorous college preparatory path
 * will enter the mainstream activities of the school
 * will increase enrollment in four-year universities
 * will become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society

At the end of the 2008-2009 school year, Granite Park Junior High was selected to be one of 20 pilot schools world wide to implement AVID school-wide college-readiness program. This is a great priviledge and honor to be one of the 20 schools that will focus on helping students be ready for college and beyond. We look forward to being part of this pilot program as we work with students at Granite Park Junior High. During the 2004-2005 school year, Granite High School was the first Utah school to have the AVID program. Since then, the AVID program has grown to reach three Utah school districts with Granite School District leading the way. Currently, this is the fifth year of AVID in the state of Utah. AVID began in 1980 in San Diego.
