ART, DANCE, AND MUSIC

Lisa Nichols - Art

Ms. Nichols has had many experiences teaching, but the one thing that is evident is her love of art.  She started here at Hunter Junior in 2008, but has volunteered as an art educator for Uintah Elementary, taught printmaking at the Salt Lake Arts Academy, painting and mural making at Wasatch Youth Center, and painting and drawing at Youth Center Artways.  She received her bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Long Beach (CA) and a masters of art in teaching from the University of Utah.  She attended junior high in Newport Beach, California where her favorite subjects were art and ceramics (of course).  If she could do junior high over again, she says that she would be nicer to her teachers.  Her advice to our students is: “Stay in school!”  Her favorites are: book, A Moveable Feast; author, Hemingway; movie, Chocolat; television show, That 70’s Show; singers, The Beatles; sport, soccer; color, green; food, Mexican.  She has three children, three cats, and a dog.

Jill Hixson - Vocal Music, General Music & Guitar

Ms. Hixson came to Hunter Junior in 2004. She is an all-around musical talent with teaching endorsements in music theory, voice, choir, guitar, music history, and piano. She attended BYU, Weber State, and the University of Utah where she studied music and art. She began teaching by giving private voice lessons in her studio at home in 1992. She has performed in musical theater on numerous occasions. Ms. Hixon was born in El Paso, Texas. However, her family moved to Utah and she attended Bountiful Junior High. She has always liked to draw, act and sing, so it's no surprise that two of her favorite subjects in junior high were art and music. The other two favorites were cooking and gym. If she could go back to those junior high school years, she would give herself permission to make mistakes and take risks. Her advice to Hunter Junior students is: "Be yourself!"
