Karel Nelson - Head Counselor (8th grade)
I was born and raised on a little farm west of Payson, Utah. My parents taught me the value of hard work and finding joy in simple things. I helped care for and feed our horse, numerous cattle, my pet rabbit and a few cats. I played volleyball, basketball and ran track in high school. I was also a student body officer and sang in the choir. I attended one semester of college in Hawaii and then lived for 16 months in Quito, Ecuador. My first job, after graduating from college, was as a bilingual, third-grade teacher in Southern California. Upon returning to Utah I taught at Stansbury Elementary while I completed my Masters Degree in School Counseling. I worked as a counselor at Granite Park Junior High, Stansbury Elementary and currently at Hunter Junior. I enjoy being at HJH. The faculty members are amazing and the students are awesome. I enjoy their energy and their ability to make me laugh. Life is good.

Tupou'ahau Ofahengaue - Counselor (7th grade)
I have been fortunate to work with many young adolescents as an academic mentor in my community, a tracker at Kearns High School for a few years, a foster parent for the last 14 years, and a mom to three great kids. I love sports, traveling, and spending time with my family. This is my fifth year at Hunter Junior and I love my counseling career.

Miss Lee loves being a School Counselor at Hunter Junior High! She graduated from the University of Utah with her Bachelor’s in Human Development and Family Studies and then graduated from the University of Phoenix with her Master’s in Educational Counseling. She has eight years of experience in Early Childhood, working at Head Start with preschoolers. Miss Lee has spent her whole life in Salt Lake City. Both of her parents were born in China and she hopes that someday she will be able to travel there. She loves to travel, shop, try new foods, watch movies, go to the Theatre (Broadways, Plays, Opera, Cirque Du Soleil, etc.), and hang out with her family and friends. She hopes to make a small difference in the lives of students here at Hunter Junior High!

Dixie Swiatocha - Counseling Secretary/Registrar
I have worked for the school district for almost 24 years. I have worked in both Elementary and High school, but I enjoy the Junior High Students the most. I was born and raised in Utah and grew up in the Sugar House area. I am married and have 3 beautiful daughters and 3 darling grandchildren. I have enjoyed my time here at Hunter Junior and my association with the parents and faculty. The counseling center is the best place to work and the counselors are fantastic.
