Kerry Bishop - English and Journalism

Kerry Bishop graduated from the University of Utah many moons ago, but took a 19 year detour with Utah Power and Light before beginning his teaching career here at Hunter Junior High in 1994. He has always loved books and reading and enjoys talking about them with his students. He is married with three children, five step-children, and one foster son. In addition, three dogs and four cats live at his house. His favorites are: book, too many to list; movie, Back to the Future; band, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (in all the various incarnations); and food, Mexican. The theme of his English classes is: Toothpaste matters. (And it means more than you might guess. Ask his students about it.) His slogan is: Find something to read!

Laurel Legate - English

I love to read, write, travel, spend time with my friends, backpack and go to the gym.  A perfect day for me would include an early morning jog around the park, a nice cup of coffee and a good book somewhere in the sun, and then a movie with friends.  I grew up in Salt Lake City and Oregon.  I have lived in France, Russia and Argentina.  I have a Masters Degree in Secondary Education and a Bachelors degree in English.  I love teaching junior high because the kids make me laugh and because it's challenging.  I've also taught English as a Second Language to elementary school kids and to adults.  But, junior high's my favorite!

Marsha Newby - English

Ms. Newby was born in Kingston, Jamaica. She attended Weber State University in Ogden and began her teaching career in North Carolina in 2003. Luckily for us, she came to Hunter Junior the next year. She has bachelor degrees in English and International Relations and can teach both English and Political Science. Her favorite subject in junior high school was history. In her spare time, Ms. Newby likes to read, watch movies, go to the beach, and dance. Her favorites are: books, Kirith Kirin, Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre; authors, Jane Austen, David Gemmell, and Terry Goodkind; movies, The Lord of the Rings (the entire trilogy) and Pride and Prejudice; TV shows, Heroes and Torchwood; songs, "Sympathy for the Devil" and "The Beginning is the End of the Beginning"; singers, Enya, Billie Holliday, and Metallica; sport, cricket; color, red; and food, corned beef and cabbage.
