Text Box: May is Spanish cultural month at Hunter Junior High.  Students in Mr. Moore’s Spanish classes will be learning the crucial difference between Spanish speaking countries including food, dress, manner, traditions, holidays, etc.  Each student will prepare a presentation on the country of their choice.  Eighth grade science students are engineering a car that will be powered by a mousetrap.  French 2 and Teen Living students enjoyed an Text Box: elegant dinner at La Caille on April 7th.  They sampled escargots in addition to sorbet, salad, chicken or salmon, and Bananas Foster or flambe` for the adventurous.  Many thanks to the personnel at this fine restaurant for a great evening complete with swans, peacocks, nesting ducks and garden walks.
Teen parent week is coming up May 18-22.  Teen Living students need to have a doll that is at least 12 inches long.  They Text Box: will be caring for it as they would a real baby.  The objective of this assignment is to get a glimpse of the responsibilities of being a teen parent.
The Jazz Band, Concert Band and Orchestras each received a superior rating at the district festivals.  The final concert is May 13.  Granite Youth Symphony try-outs are on May 13 from 3:30-5:30 at West Lake Junior High for 6th-9th Text Box: Jennings and Jocelyn Correa.  They all won fabulous prizes at the movie.

Text Box: On April 29, the PTSA, in conjunction with Hunter Junior, sponsored a movie night to raise money for the Drama Department.  We showed the movie, Twilight.  While attendance was not as high as we had hoped, those who did attend had a great time.  Congratulations to Jordan Merrel, Niki Barber, Jordan Text Box: Sandee Burton, Leadership.
We encourage you to join the PTSA next year.  If you would like to volunteer, we would love to have your help.  Just being a member has its benefits.  Your student gets free admission to two dances and can participate in prize wheel spins throughout the year.

Text Box: launching student built rockets.  Careers are a big part of the 7th grade CTE-Intro curriculum.  Students learn about many careers– both requiring a university degree and not.  The difference between rotary and fixed wing flight is investigated and discussions concerning careers in aviation are included.  Students put their marketing skills to work to create and Text Box: promote a commercial product.  They are also introduced to machines and the manufacturing process leading to creating a product they can be proud of.
Text Box: A lot happens when students attend one of the variety of technology courses we offer.  In  Communications Technology, students have learned to read bar codes, create animations, program video games and manipulate pictures to make their own art.  In Technology 1 students have learned about transportation by making hovercrafts, a boomerang, and Text Box: “Careers are a big part of the CTE-Intro curriculum.”
