Winter recess is December 21st - January 1st. Students return to school Monday January 4th.
Our instrumental concert is Wednesday December 16th at 6:00 p.m.
Mr. Anthony
12/3/09
Dance Concert - The dance concert is December 9th and 10th. The cost is $2.00 for adults 12 and over. 12 and under are free. We require that students must be accompanied by a parent when attending these performances which has drastically reduced the amount of discipline needed by those supervising these performances. As a compromise for this rule, we will have a school wide assembly for our students so they have the privilege to see these talented students.
Yearbooks - Deadline to purchase a yearbook is December 14th. If you have not already purchased a yearbook and would like one, the cost is $16.00. We have lost money by having too many extra books and must have a closer count here in December. We will not have extra yearbooks for purchase in the spring.
Mr. Anthony

There is no school Wed, Thurs, Fri, Nov. 25,26,27. Mid term is December 4th.

Please be sure to use our traffic light to cross 5600 W. when walking. We have had several students chose to "jaywalk" instead of doing the right thing. 5600 W. is a busy and dangerous street. Choosing to jaywalk not acceptable and can result in law enforcement consequences. Parents, if you will remind your students it would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Parents,
On September 8th, the first day of school for many children across America, the President of the United States will deliver a national address directly to students on the importance of education. He will challenge them to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning. He will also advocate every child receiving the best education possible so they ultimately can compete for good jobs and live rewarding and productive lives in their communities.
Because this is the first time an American president has spoken directly to the nation’s school children about succeeding in school, U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, has encouraged principals, teachers and students nationwide to watch this live broadcast next Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Students in History class at that time will be provided the opportunity to hear this address live.
Parents can listen to the message at the following website www.whitehouse.gov. If you have questions or prefer your child not participate, please contact me.
Thank you,
Rick Anthony

Dear Parents:
As you are aware, national, state, and county health departments are on alert concerning the spread of swine flu (H1N1). The Granite School District has and will continue to work closely with the Salt Lake Valley Health Department to keep your children safe. H1N1 symptoms may include a fever, body aches, cough, sore throat, trouble breathing, runny nose, vomiting, and diarrhea.
In line with CDC guidance, healthy students should be in school.
We are encouraging school principals to monitor students who are absent from school with flu-like symptoms. We will encourage your children to wash their hands often and participate in proper respiratory etiquette. Our staff will keep counters and desk tops sanitized.
If your child is sick, please keep your student home. Please contact your student’s school if your child is experiencing any of the H1N1 symptoms (fever, body aches, cough, sore throat, trouble breathing, runny nose, vomiting, or diarrhea). If the school calls to report your student has become sick while at school, please make timely arrangements to pick-up your student from school.
The Center of Disease Control (CDC) has suggested the following actions we can all take to stay healthy:
- Practice proper respiratory etiquette by covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and by appropriately disposing of the tissue.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs spread this way.
- Avoid contact with sick people. H1N1 is spread through person-to-person contact.
You can find additional information for parents at http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/parents.
If you have questions, please contact your health care provider or call the Salt Lake Valley Health Department’s Information Hotline at 2-1-1, which is available in English or Spanish.
The Granite District is committed to providing a safe environment for students, teachers, and staff.
Parents and Guardians,
I have received a call from a concerned parent regarding the H1N1 or swine flu virus. We continue to work closely with the Salt Lake Valley Health Department to monitor this disease in our community. Our school and district will act upon any recommendations they provide.
At this point in time, parents should be reassured that our administration and faculty has and will continue to monitor our student body for symptoms of any illness and take necessary precautions to resolving those situations. Parents should continue to encourage their students to practice proper respiratory etiquette including the frequent washing of hands and covering the mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing.
We will continue to work with SLVHD in monitoring our attendance and health. If we have any concerns, or any significant developments, we will notify parents promptly. Please contact me at 801-646-5194 if you have any questions or concerns about your student or any measure that we have taken.
Thank you,
Rick Anthony

Next week we have our spring dance concert. The school auditorium is not large enough to accommodate the size of audience that attends our dance concert so we offer the performance two nights in a row. Our hope is that by offering it two nights in a row we are able to seat everyone. Please choose one of the nights to attend. They will be held the 29th or the 30th at 7 p.m. Ticket price will be $2.00 for people 12 and older. As with all of our evening performances, students (including high school age students) will need to be accompanied by an adult in order to attend.
Please contact us with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your assistance!

We have added a new way to communicate with parents and students via text message. Our hope is that this will provide important information and/or reminders to more people. Users can subscribe to a service that will allow the school to send out quick text messages reminding about all sorts of things from when school is out to when grades are distributed. It will also allow us to send out emergency information if it is ever needed. We will not fill your phone with spam and only plan to send a couple text messages a month. Be aware - standard text message charges apply so if your plan charges you to receive a text message, you will be responsible for that cost.
