Thomas Jefferson Jr. High School

Counseling Center
Comprehensive Counseling and Guidance
Mission Statement
Within the school, the guidance program is an equal partner with the instructional program. Each has the common goal of empowering students to function effectively in the society in which they will live.
At Jefferson, the guidance program is defined to include all of the efforts directed at helping students reach specific competencies or outcomes in the areas of:
1. Self-understanding and interpersonal relationships
2. Educational and occupational exploration
3. Career planning
The program is developmental by design, and includes activities organized and implemented by certified school counselors with the support of administrators, teachers, students, and parents. These activities are designed to meet identified needs and are provided through the four major components of the program which include:
1. Guidance curriculum
2. Responsive services
3. Individual planning
4. System support
The program is comprehensive, meaning it strives to meet the guidance needs of all students, the counseling needs of those who require special assistance, and the system support needs of the guidance program and the school.
