Volunteer
Opportunities
Studies prove that the more parents are involved in their
child's school, the better ALL students do. Here are a few
of our ongoing volunteer opportunities. Please contact the
Parent Center if you would be interested in helping. Thank
you! |
|
Classroom Aide:
We are frequently asked to assist individual students in
some of their classes. Volunteers help students stay on task
and understand and complete assignments. |
| |
Lunchroom Monitor:
The lunchroom is where the action is! Being a lunchroom
monitor gives you the opportunity to interact with a wide variety
of students, including your child and his/her friends. It lets
you see the junior high experience "up close and personal."
It also lets you positively impact a greater number of students
than just about any other volunteer position. We would prefer
to have volunteers commit to covering one, two-hour lunch shift
per week (11:20-1:20 Monday-Thursday or 9:55:12:35 on Friday),
but we would also happily accept people who could just drop
in occasionally. |
|
After-school Monitor:
We would love to have parents help monitor the halls and the
school grounds for about 20 minutes after the last bell rings.
(The last bell rings at 2:45 M-TH and 12:40 on Fridays.) If
you are a parent who usually picks your child up at the end
of the school day, perhaps you could stay just a little bit
late on one of those days to help out (then you wouldn't have
to fight the after-school traffic!). |

Helpful Hints from the
Parent Center
One of the biggest fears incoming 7th graders have is not being
able to open their locker. To help alleviate this fear, buy
a combination lock and let your child practice opening it. Once
school starts, if your child's locker jams or will not open
they should go ahead and go to class and tell their teacher
the problem. A custodian can then be called to open the locker.
