Reality Town

Valley Junior has had a fun activity for 9th graders the last few years
called Reality Town. Students are assigned a job and a salary based on
their request, but also on their grade point average (for example, if
they want to be a doctor, but have a low GPA, they may get to be a
nurse’s assistant). They are also assigned a family situation; spouse,
and kids. They learn how to use a checkbook, fill out a job
application, and write a resume before the big day.

On the day of Reality Town students go to the gym for a
few hours, which is decorated like a miniature town. There are booths
for all the needs of life; such as taxes, banking, groceries, child
care, insurance, car purchase, etc. etc. etc. They work their way
through the various booths, trying to prioritize and make their dollars
stretch!

It has been an eye-opening and fun experience for our students!
