Grading is on a point total basis. Grading is based on: A = 90% of possible points B = 80% of possible points C = 70% of possible points D = 60% of possible points F = less than 60% of possible points
Class rules are: Consequences: 1. Come to class prepared 2. Follow directions. 3. Work on science until finished
Don =t disrupt Show respect
Class policies: Tardies: Beginning with the third tardy of the term, each unexcused tardy will result in an after school detention. 3 unexcused tardies will result in a 2 citizenship grade, and 4 unexcused tardieswill result in a 0 grade in citizenship
Absences: One unexcused absence (sluff) results in a 2 citizenship grade. Two or more unexcused absences result in a 0 citizenship grade. Work may not be made up from unexcused absences. It isthe student=s responsibility to find out about and make up worked missed due to excused absences.
Late work: Full credit is given for late work due to excused absences if it is turned in within 1 week after the absence. All other late work will receive 2 credit. Work turned in more than 1 week late will not be accepted. Any tests missed must also be made up within 1 week.
Hall passes: Two hall passes are allowed each student per term. After they are used, no hall passes will be given for any reason. Unused passes will be redeemed for 5 extra credit points each at the end of the term. If this will be a problem due to a medical condition, please notify me and an exception can be made.
Preparedness: Students are expected to bring textbook, paper, pen or pencil and their science notebook to class each day. Failure to bring any of these things will result in the student receiving a demerit. When a student has received 3 demerits in a term, he or she will be given an after school detention. Supplies: Need to bring to class each day 3 ring binder -- standard size (no spiral notebooks Notebook paper pens or pencils (no markers or highlighters) Colored pencils Honesty: Students are expected to do their own work including assignments. Copying any assignment is cheating.
Probation: Because this class is accelerated and challenging, it is important that students keep up with their work. It is expected that the students will turn in assignments on time and do the best work of which they are capable. It is suggested that any student who does not have a B- grade or better at the end of first semester transfer to a regular science class. In addition, to be guaranteed a place in G.T. science in 8th grade, the student must maintain a minimum grade of B every term in 7th grade science.
