Students must be in regular attendance to understand and successfully complete a course of study; therefore, parents and students should accept responsibility for the student's attendance.
Parents/guardians must provide school personnel a written excuse (with the student's name and ID number) for all absences. This excuse should be turned into Mrs. Leavitt, the attendance secretary, the morning they return to school.
Parents are encouraged to notify the school for any extended absences (vacations, etc.)
Seven or more days (or equivalent periods) of excused absences within a school year are considered excessive and may require a physician's note to excuse subsequent absences.
After five or more days (or equivalent class periods) of unexcused absences within a school year, the school will mail the parent/student a Truancy Letter asking for the parent's help with their child's attendance and warning consequences for further truancy. (Students must be in attendance 4/7 of a day to receive credit for one full day.
After 10 days (or equivalent class periods) of unexcused absences within a school year, the school will mail the parents/student a Habitual Truancy Notice/Pre-Court Hearing that requires appearance at a pre-court hearing.
After 15 or more days ( or equivalent class periods) of unexcused absences within a school year, parents/student will be mailed a Habitual Truancy Notice. Students in grades 7-12 will be referred to the Third District Juvenile Court.
