I believe that the biggest question is if this performance pay will be in ADDITION to our agreed lanes and steps on the salary schedule, or if there will be some kind of restructuring of the pay scale? Also, if education cannot properly be funded now, how is this money going to suddenly become available? Luckily, I AM in a great situation in which I have a team that is able to successfully collaborate, but there are other teams I’ve been on where the members were very competitive and UNLIKELY to successfully collaborate–how will that work? Also, how can we hold our students’ families more accountable? Again, I work with some wonderful colleagues, and we are in an area of great family support, but what about those folks who are in communities with less support? We can only control what we can control, but I am frustrated that MY PAY might be in jeopardy when some students miss several dozens of days of school. I would like to see more strict and swift truancy penalties. Seriously? How many days is it before even a WARNING letter can be sent? I am glad to hear that the Superintendency is seeing this change as a positive opportunity, and I genuinely hope that it pans out that way, but there are so very many questions I need answered before I’ll be looking forward to it. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to voice my concerns. -Amber Palmer

Amber Palmer ยป At the current time, we are not aware of any efforts to add funds to pay for this change. However, performance pay will simply allow a person to receive their intended step. So that will not require any additional funding.
