Grandparents are typically among the most beloved and important people in the life of a child. Their influence can go a long way in a student’s academic pursuits.
In an effort to engage this important group of people, the PTA at Carl Sandburg Elementary invited more than 150 grandparents to attend school during the last hour of the day with their grandchildren.
Teachers gave regular instruction as the grandparents helped with mapping, listened to oral essays, and helped students rhyme words in the kindergarten class, which was overflowing with participation.
The event culminated in a giant tree (pictured) that reads, “Grandparents help us grow.”
