It was another exciting week at the Granite Education Foundation, packed with generous service to the Granite community and educational entertainment for students.
Book Talk
The students and faculty at Eastwood, Vista, and Rolling Meadows Elementary schools, along with Evergreen Jr. High, were entertained by renowned author Tyler Whitesides’s energetic presentation during Granite Education Foundation’s Book Talk. Tyler, author of the widely popular “Janitors” series, mesmerized the audience with his interactive performance, which included him playing a garbage can as a musical instrument, as well as an impressive Shel Silverstein reading in character voices.
McDonald’s Day of Service
Granite Education Foundation coordinated McDonald’s Day of Service this week where members of GEF, local McDonald’s employees, students, and volunteers in the community turned out to complete various projects. The team of volunteers detail-cleaned Neil Armstrong Academy, painted U.S. maps on the playgrounds at both Redwood Elementary and Whittier Elementary, and spent hours picking up garbage and trimming trees around school grounds. Lowe’s donated some of the supplies.
Boeing Backpacks
Boeing teamed up this week with the Granite Education Foundation to provide 250 backpacks to students at Copper Hills Elementary. Boeing employees came to personally distribute the backpacks to very excited and appreciative students.
