Students, parents and teachers at Neil Armstrong Academy in West Valley City laced up their best walking shoes as left their cars behind for a more active and healthy route to school.
Led by Buzz, the school’s all new mascot bald eagle, families parked at the nearby Target store and strolled to school as part of the national Walk/Bike to School program to promote healthier habits, cleaner environment, and student safety.
“So many of our kids come on special permit from a long ways away,” said Armstrong Academy principal Tyler Howe. “Starting at the Target allows kids to participate even though they don’t live close to the school.”
Upon arrival at the school, each student traced their footprint and signed their name on large posters commemorating the event.
