Like many teachers in Granite School District, Woodrow Wilson Elementary first grade teacher Sharon Wallis understands the unique challenges her students face every day.
That’s why she’s constantly soliciting donations for her students to have warm clothing or hot meals. Despite several obstacles and setbacks, Sharon is dedicated to helping her students both in and outside the classroom.
Sharon was among 10 Utah educators who received the 2013 UEA Excellence in Teaching Award during the KeyBank Superstars in Education banquet last week.
The Excellence in Teaching Awards are presented each year to Utah public school teachers “whose efforts in the classroom have significantly impacted the life of an individual child or group of children.”
Each recipient was nominated by their peers and selected based on their impact on students. Sharon received a check for $1,500 along with the award.
