District Chef Jeff Gratton, Principal Tysen Fausett and Kitchen Manager Efrain Carrasco took a regular school lunch menu item – teriyaki beef stir fry – and turned it into a live action show at Woodrow Wilson Elementary’s lunchroom last week.
Students, faculty and staff could choose the dish or other offerings of the day. Everyone, however, was treated to the smells and sights of fresh broccoli and beef sautéing in pans with Efrain, or “Mr. E” as he’s known to students, working in tandem with the chef.
“Students learn how much care we put into their meals every school day” observed Chef Gratton, who launched the program in response to a federal “Chefs Move to Schools” initiative.
