Opening the front doors and walking in to the main foyer of Vista Elementary was an impressive sight to behold –
Sharply dressed students wait patiently to greet you as one of them steps forward, shakes your hand, and escorts you to the office to check you in. From there, you’re led throughout the school, stopping occasionally to hear descriptions of lessons and student projects.
This scene of diplomacy was demonstrated by several students who facilitated tours for state lawmakers and other VIP’s who came to see Vista classrooms in action.
Vista was recently awarded a grant to help implement the Leader in Me program as part of Student Leadership Skill Development bill, which was signed by Gov. Gary Herbert in May. Along with local legislators, officials from other schools who plan to implement the program took a tour of classrooms and daily activities.
