A group of Evergreen Junior High students were treated like dignitaries during a tour of the magnificent Utah Capitol building, which included a special visit with Governor Gary Herbert.
Susan Root’s 7th and 8th grade social studies honors pupils were privileged to learn about Herbert’s life and gubernatorial duties firsthand on the steps of the west grand staircase.
The visit came about through a special invitation from the governor to Mrs. Root, whose husband served alongside Gary Herbert during a Mormon mission. The personalized nature of the conversation allowed the students to feel comfortable asking the governor personal questions relating to his path to office.
To help instill the value of their schooling, Herbert requested that the students recite, “If you want a good job, get a good education,” multiple times before bidding them goodbye.
