GSD teacher named Educator of the Year by South Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce

February 2014Granite Schools

Granite Park Jr. High special education teacher Lynsey Butler received the 2013 Educator of the Year award by the South Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce.

Lynsey was honored during a Chamber of Commerce banquet at the Zions Bank Tower in Salt Lake City, where she received a standing ovation from attendees.

Below is an excerpt of what was read during the banquet:

“Lynsey teaches the lowest level of English and reading to our SLD special education students. Because of her concern, support and involvement in their lives, each of these students (who might be expected to have at least one failing grade) are all passing their classes.”

“‘No putdowns’ is her biggest rule, and is one integral reason she gets her students to excel–they are not afraid of stretching themselves in their classes.”

“Granite Park is better because of her attention to detail in providing services, spending hour upon hour after school to meet the needs of parents and families in South Salt Lake, and in being an advocate for the children of this community with learning challenges.”
