With two winners already established, the tiebreaker round for third place in the Second Grade Quotation Bee at Beehive Elementary came down to a phrase by author Mark Twain:
“A person who won’t … ”
Can you correctly finish the quote?
This was the style of competition for Beehive Elementary students in the school’s second annual event where students had to orate a famous quote from memory.
Each participant displayed an astounding ability to recite multiple phrases after receiving only a few starting words. One student in particular was so anxious to give her answer that she began rehearsing her given phrase before Janet Christensen, the Quotation Bee’s organizer, could finish providing the hint.
As for the tiebreaker round, the quote in its entirety reads:
“A person who won’t read has no advantage over one who can’t read.”
