Hundreds of bills circled through the Utah Legislature during the 2014 General Session; many of which impact public schools.
Here are a few noteworthy bills that were passed during the session:
Allows school community councils to use LAND Trust Program money to participate in a student leadership skills development program.
The leadership program of choice for many schools is FranklinCovey Institute’s Leader in Me program.
Provides funding for Advanced Placement (AP) test fees for low-income students.
Creates a statewide School Safety Tip Line.
Students in Granite School District already have access to a tip line to report bullying, violence, and other safe school violations: Phone (801) 481-7199 or Text (801) 664-2929.
Under certain circumstances, allows school employees or school resource officers to ask a student questions regarding suicidal thoughts or self-harming behavior.
Previous law prevented school employees for asking such questions.
