One of Granite School District’s outstanding school counselors received some special recognition for her efforts to help children, teachers, and families succeed.
Shandi Engman, who works at Elk Run Elementary and Magna Elementary, was dubbed the Elementary School winner in the “I Love My School Counselor” state contest.
The campaign, sponsored by The Utah School Counselor Association, invited Utah students and adults to nominate their favorite school counselors who have gone above and beyond their regular duties to help them.
Shandi was nominated by Elk Run Elementary 5th grade teacher Cindi Fisher. Here’s what she had to say:
“I have worked with her for almost a decade. We worked previously at Magna Elementary and I moved schools and Miss Shandi continues to work at both schools.”
“Over the years I have had the opportunity to work very closely with her helping students with a myriad of problems. She is very knowledgeable about resources that can help kids and is very empathetic in dealing with them. She also works very closely with parents and has patience and resources to help them be the best parents that they can.”
“In addition, I have gone to her on multiple occasions over the years for help and advice in dealing with the many and varied problems that teachers encounter. I appreciate her so much and I know that I am a better teacher because of her influence and help over the years.”
