At the age when most students in the U.S. enter second grade, Emmanuel Jal was carrying an AK-47 as a child soldier in Sudan.
Today, Emmanuel is a recording artist on a mission to spread a message of hope for those affected by war and genocide.
As part of the Utah Global Community Summit, Emmanuel visited Cottonwood High School to share his story of transformation with students who provided their own insights about conflict resolution and justice.
Students from Cottonwood’s Language Academy joined in the celebration with cultural performances that showcased ethnic heritages. Attendees left the assembly with a broader understanding of worldwide conflicts, and a new resolve to help others near and far.
