Eight students, including four from Granite School District, were honored at the annual Utah Chapter of La Raza’s Cesar Chavez Awards Banquet for their entries in a multi-district celebration of social justice.
The Cesar Chavez Creative Arts Competition allowed participants to identify a leader for social justice and illustrate or describe reasons why a local street should be named for that leader. The following students were chosen from several high-quality entries:
Ellie De Groote – Fifth grade, Armstrong Academy – Elementary Language Arts
Estefanía Orozco – Senior, Granger High School – Secondary Language Arts
Jersson Gómez Amador – Sixth grade, Granger Elementary – Elementary Visual Arts
Guadalupe Barrera – Ninth grade, Matheson Jr. High – Secondary Visual Arts
All 36 winning entries from GSD students are on display at the Mestizo Institute of Culture and Art (641 W. North Temple). Click here for a full list.
