Students and teachers from numerous schools in the district dropped, took cover, and held on as part of a statewide initiative to be prepared for large earthquakes.
The 2014 Great Utah ShakeOut Drill aimed to help Utahns understand proper safety measures in the event of an earthquake. Many schools took the opportunity to review procedures so that students are better prepared for a natural disaster.
As a review, here are the basic procedures to remember during an earthquake:
When shaking begins, in MOST situations you will reduce your chance of injury if you:
DROP down onto your hands and knees,
COVER your head and neck under a sturdy table or desk,
and HOLD ON to your shelter.
