The Renaissance era is known for having a profound effect on art, architecture, literature, and education in Europe during the 14th century.
For Brockbank Junior High students, the term Renaissance also means a dynamic shift in grade point averages and citizenship participation marks.
Using a model developed by Jostens, Brockbank administrators and teachers have implemented a system of recognition for students who improve their GPA and CPA during a term. Students who meet certain benchmarks are rewarded with various prizes and as an incentive to push their academic experience forward.
“By the end of the year, students have become aware of the advantages of good grades and citizenship and the number of Renaissance students increases,” said Brockbank teacher Karel McDonough.
Students develop a sort of team mentality in helping each other reach their goals. When the time for disseminating prizes rolls around, the line of recipients stretches out the door.
