Two outstanding individuals in Granite School District were honored with the prestigious Huntsman Awards for Excellence in Education.
Elk Run Elementary principal Jon Adams and volunteer Ilene Gorzitze are among ten educators from across the state who were selected by a Huntsman committee to receive the award.
Jon has been serving as principal of Elk Run since the school opened in 2011, and Ilene volunteers teaching physical education at Upland Terrace Elementary in Millcreek and Jim Bridger Elementary in West Jordan.
Each recipient will receive $10,000 and will be honored at a special banquet at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City on May 16.
Congratulations to Jon and Ilene for their wonderful contributions to students in Granite School District.

Ilend Gorzzitze was my PE teacher for my three years of junior high. I learned so much from her. I became a referee and did that for many years after high school and college. She gave me a love for archery. I can’t thank her enough for sharing her knowledge, passion, and love for being active.
Congrats Mrs. G.

Ilene you were my supervising teacher when I did my student teaching. I had a glorious and educational time. I have never forgotten you and followed your career at Highland High. You were and I am sure the most amazing lady in all that you do. One funny thing I remember is you trying to do the German cooking with your mother-in-laws guidance. those times really made me laugh. I had such a great experience and I know it was a lot because of you. I am still teaching and still loving it and I was thrilled to see you honored and in our district. God bless you Ilene.
