Life is tough when you’re a former reality television star. One minute you’re battling your competitors with mechanical weapons, the next you’re headed for a scrap heap.
Luckily for RoboSapien, there’s a new opportunity to get back in the robotic limelight.
As a former contestant on Comedy Central’s “BattleBots,” the machine fought in numerous skirmishes against other warrior robots during the show’s two-year run. Now retired from combat, RoboSapien will have a new purpose – assisting young engineers with hands-on academics.
Though perhaps not as glamorous as its former function, RoboSapien’s new role will be the transport cart for Hunter High’s FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics team. The group competes annually in statewide competitions designed to test students’ engineering and technology skills.
“We want to acknowledge Bob Hamlet for the donation of this awesome piece of robot technology and reality television history,” said Hunter High robotics instructor Scott Watson.
