Did you know the average U.S. kid watches 25 hours of TV and plays 7 hours of computer games a week?
Studies consistently show an association between children being overweight and poor levels of academic achievement. Today, even in rural areas, only a quarter of kids play outside daily compared to three quarters a generation ago.
But It’s not too late to create healthy summers for our kids.
Play Unplugged is a Summer program that encourages active children lifestyles and drives foot traffic into local businesses.
How Does Play Unplugged Work?
Children choose from a catalog of self-directed summer activities to complete, ranging from bug hunting, hiking or visiting the library to meeting a city leader, doing a good deed, or interviewing a veteran. Each local business sponsors a unique activity and receives artist-created brag badges with their business logo to distribute. Children must visit the local business with their parents to report on their activity and collect their brag badge, driving increased foot traffic to the businesses and enabling increased sales.
What does the Play Unplugged Program Cost?
Each local business is able to sign up and choose a brag badge activity for a $250 investment, which provides 250 brag badges, business website, and start up package.
