Roosevelt Elementary students are always pushing to perform their best in school. This holiday season the payoff for their hard work will not only benefit themselves, but their brothers, sisters and parents as well.
Throughout the year, Roosevelt students earn Tiger Tokens for academic achievement and good behavior. Normally, students use these tokens at Roosevelt’s “Tiger Store” to purchase items for themselves. But for one special week, the store was transformed into a hub where students could use their tokens to “buy” gifts for their family members.
One-by-one students were led by volunteers up and down rows of items to pick out the perfect gifts for siblings, parents and grandparents. Once the presents were collected, the students brought them to a PTA member to be giftwrapped.
Each of the gifts was provided by PTA funds, community members, former teachers, and current Roosevelt students.
“As a Title 1 school, and with a population of students who come from diverse backgrounds, we feel this is an important service to offer our students,” said Roosevelt PTA member Laurie Blake.
