It was the day the Robot Techs had been preparing for since the start of the school year – the regional FIRST Lego League competition at Salt Lake Community College.
The team from Hartvigsen School had been learning teamwork and critical thinking skills while programming their Lego robot to complete a variety of “missions” on competition mat.
This year’s theme for the competition is “World Class,” and team projects must answer the question: “How can we learn ______ better?” Hartvigsen students filled in the blank with “cooking” and prepped for their project by watching culinary shows and attending a cooking class. With their robot programmed and their project completed, they were ready to face off against other teams from the area.
During the Robot Games portion of the competition, the Robot Techs completed 5 missions for a score of 95 points, which placed them in the middle of the pack of 20 teams at the event.
Though not expecting to take home any of the top trophies, the Robot Techs were elated to earn the Most Inspirational Team Award, signifying that their efforts inspired coaches, parents, judges, and other participants more than any other team. The team will receive their award at an upcoming assembly at Hartvigsen.
Congratulations, Robot Techs!
