Poetry was on the minds of students at Granger Elementary this month. Take a look at these Haikus from different grade levels:
Cats are the cutest.
Cats are the cutest mammal.
Cats don’t like lemons.
-Diego A., 1st Grade
It’s a winter day
Trees are covered with snowflakes
Delicate, glowing
-Isabella K., 3rd Grade
Moonbeams and starlight
Cast a soft luminous glow
Warming up my night
-Natalie M., 6th Grade
These are just a few examples of the fourteen pieces that were selected as winners in Granger’s monthly Writing Contest.
“We began this initiative in November, and each month our students write on a common topic,” said Granger literacy coach Kalina Potts. “It has been exciting, invigorating and inspiring to promote writing and have all of our students participate.”
As a special treat for the winners and their parents, Granger invited guest speaker Rod Miller from the Cowboy Poets of Utah to share some writing insights.
