Twenty-five drawings from students at Eisenhower Jr. High were on display for Salt Lake Symphony’s performance of “The Firebird” and the “Sinfonia Antartica” this past weekend.
Earlier this year, members of the orchestra visited Eisenhower with Bev Keyes, director of Atelier Children’s Art Center, to present music from the concert. Eisenhower art teacher Jane Myers and instrumental music teacher Ryan Tommer then worked with students to create paintings inspired by the music.
Following the concert, the art was sold during a silent auction with proceeds going back to support Eisenhower’s art program. The students had the privilege of attending the concert at the Libby Gardner Hall at the University of Utah.
The whole experience was a great opportunity to show the connection between visual art and music.
