Art students at Hunter Jr. High brought some color to the school’s commons area after unveiling their colorful ceramic tile mural.
The mural is composed of 144 ceramic tiles designed and glazed by Ms. Nichols 8th and 9th grade visual art students. In designing the mural, students discussed and developed themes they felt to be important, such as the environment and equality issues.
Students also explored the life of graffiti artist Keith Haring and his influence and focus on community art works. Influenced by pop artists, favorite everyday objects made their way into the mural as well.
The project was fun and meaningful, and a way for students to leave something positive as they prepare to move on to the high school. A grant from the Granite Education Foundation’s helped make the mural possible.
