A group of Skyline High School students delivered a powerful theatrical performance catered to the needs of hearing-impaired teens and community members.
The school’s production of Bang Bang You’re Dead was performed entirely in American Sign Language by students in the school’s ‘ASL 3’ class. Narrations accompanied the performance so that both hearing and deaf audience members could enjoy the show.
The play carries themes and messages designed to curb bullying and school violence. As such, tickets to the play were free in an effort to attract a large audience for the performances.
Earlier in the school year, performers received on-site acting tips from actress Katie Leclerc, who has appeared on television series Veronica Mars, The Big Bang Theory, and Switched at Birth. Leclerc began learning American Sign Language prior to being diagnosed with a degenerative inner ear disorder at age 20.
